My Meatless Ways: Part 2..?

As many people know I recently gave vegetarianism a try. I wrote about it around the time I started doing it and why I chose to do it. Mostly for health reasons. I really did feel better after every meal that wasn't loaded down with greasy meat. My moral stance was that I didn't like the way the animals were killed, but I ultimately believed that that's why animals are here.. to be eaten. Do they have feelings? Sure. But what other purpose do they really serve?

I had to give up my vegetarianism a month ago because I started doing Body For Life and the meals for the program are heavily based on a balanced portion of protein and carbs for each meal. So I decided to forego my vegetarian ways - at least for this three month process - so I could be fully committed to this. (Plus my hair was falling out in major chunks and my nails started peeling off due to serious lack of protein)

But now I'm having second thoughts..

One of my favorite, underrated shows returned 3 weeks ago. 30 Days airs on FX on Tuesday nights at 9 and of course all during the week because it's cable. For those who've never seen or heard of it, it's from Morgan Spurlock who did Super Size Me and it's the same concept for different experimentation's each week. So far this season we've spent 30 Days as a coal miner in West Virginia, we've seen a retired professional athlete spend 30 Days in a wheelchair and last week we saw a meat-eater/hunter spend 30 Days with a vegan family. Here's a preview. The whole episode isn't on the site as of right now, but it should be soon and I recommend everyone watching it. It really made me think about how awful and unnecessarily cruel people are to animals. There's no point at all for their actions and this show brought me to tears on several occasions.. especially the part about putting down a perfectly healthy dog because there's no room for him and no family would take him.

Sorry to be all Debbie Downer, but I think it's something worth watching!

I just set my Tivo. I forgot that 30 Days had come back on. I love that show.

Couldn't you use your veggie burgers while doing Body For Life or will that not work?

If you really feel that strongly about it I think you should go meatless...and take a protein supplement of course.

Oh gosh. I watched 30 days last night and I cried...I mean sobbed...when it was over. I was telling J about the dogs and the calfs and had tears streaming down my face and was doing the high-pitched-talk-and-cry. It was awful.

Um, could you write a new blog please?
